This position may be expected to float to other clinic locations, it is not intended to float full time unless otherwise indicated.
Essential Functionso Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and clinic policies and procedures.
o Prepare patients for the health care visit by accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; positioning patients for examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
o Verify patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
o Support care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
o Educate patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
o Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
o Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies.
o Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
o Consistently communicate in a professional and courteous manner.
o Provide in-service training and precepting as directed.
o Perform related duties as required.
o May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
Required QualificationsMedical Assistant:
Requires graduation from a Medical Assistant education program.
Applicant must possess Medical Assistant certification within 6 months of hire as a condition of employment.
Additional formal education in a healthcare field is preferred.
Certified Medical Assistant:
Requires graduation from a Medical Assistant education program.
One of the following certifications:
o Clinical Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)o Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)o Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)o Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)o Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)o Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)o Additional formal education in a healthcare field is preferred.
